Owl Be There For You

Not much new going on - back to school and work for everyone but me! I'm still on vacation until next Monday. Tonight I'm trying some different brushes and effects on a quick little owl.

Yes, I know the head looks a little like a cat. Whoooo cares?

Plus, I just discovered a new feature! This program I'm using automatically saves everything I do while drawing and then can play it back as a time lapse video! Wanna see how Mr. Owl was created? Of course you do!

Evolving Skills?

It's February 12, and you know what that means? That's right! Once again it's Darwin Day! For the last two years, I've drawn the same picture of Charles Darwin, hoping to see how (or if) my style or technique has improved or changed. Here's a link to the 2013 picture, and here's the one from last year. I don't think today's version is much better, but at least it took me far less time to draw!

Waterfalls

Still thinking and planning and getting ideas on what and how to write - so, in the meantime, here's a quick speed painting (~45 minutes) of some waterfalls.

Long Eared Owl

Maybe practice pays off. Tonight I was tired and uninspired with no idea what to draw. Recently, though, I was invited to join an owl-themed group on deviantart, so I figured I'd just do a quick speed painting of an owl. I found a source photo on Google and was able to crank this out in about a half hour. Looking at it now, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, especially since something like this would have taken me hours and hours not too many months ago.

Bluebird

Here's hoping everyone has a very happy National Bluebird of Happiness Day!

Snowy Cabin

It's snowing. Again. I'm getting pretty tired of it, so here's a quick 10 minute sketch - that's all it really deserves.

Making the 'Grade

Tardigrades are awesome. They might only be half a millimeter long, but they can survive almost anything, like extreme temperatures (absolute zero to well above boiling), radiation, the vacuum of space and going without food or water for more than 10 years! Plus, they're also known as "moss piglets", which is just adorable!

They deserve better than this quick sketch, but this is all I've got tonight. Expect to see more of these guys in the future, though.

F-16 Speed Sketch

Today we learned that when the A-10s at the base where I work are retired, we'll be getting a bunch of F-16s instead of drones or something like that. This is very good news for the base. So tonight I did a very quick (about 20 minutes), very rough sketch of an F-16. I like this plane - they always look like they're smiling.

Jellyfish

Once again, a night where I didn't know what to draw and was running out of time. So here are some jellyfish! (This one took about 40 minutes.)

30 Minute Llama

Tonight's challenge, another speed painting - this time I gave myself only 30 minutes. Why a llama? Because I felt like painting a llama, of course!

Pine Tree Mountain

Tonight, I'm trying something new - speed painting. Just as the name implies, the challenge is to make a painting within a certain time limit. I didn't time myself tonight, just tried to go quickly, but I think this one came in at under 45 minutes. I also used different brushes than normal, going for more of a painted look.
